Turkish language film features Iran hero

Best film of 2022 Fajr Film Festival depicts Iranian hero in Iraq-Iran war with dialogues performed in the Turkish language.

‘The Situation of Mehdi’ gained a number of awards and nominations besides the title of Best Film at the 40th Fajr fest.  It narrates the last days of Mehdi Bakeri, Iranian Azerbaijani general of the Iran-Iraq war and his troops.

What makes the flick quite special are the dialogues in Turkish with Persian subtitles. Considering this peculiar, ‘the Situation of Mehdi’ is the first Turkish language Iranian film winning the Best Film award at Fajr fest.

Actor-turned-director Hadi Hejazi said about the dialogues in Turkish that most soldiers under Martyr Bakeri’s command at Iraq-Iran war spoke the Turkish language, adding, “The use of the Turkish language added more credibility.”

The hero is highly revered as one of the greatest Iranian war heroes. Bakeri Expressway, in western Tehran, has been named after him.
